Weekly Arts Wrap Up- 5/19/17

Another whirlwind week filled with art, music and performance!

At Durfee, artists share their best work with the community at the Festival of the Arts- held Friday, May 19th from 5 to 7PM. Student work was adjudicated by local artists and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons were placed on the pieces chosen for their skill and ability to work within each category.  Here are some images from the show..

At Kuss, this evening and throughout the weekend, we have The Lion King Musical being performed by the Kuss Theater Group.  This amazing and resilient team of young actors and singers have had to cope with the sudden loss of their Theater teacher, Mr. Eric Spencer.  Mr. Toby Monte, Ms. Nicole Laprise, Ms. Melissa Costa Doyle, Ms. Stephanie Bonalewicz and Mr. Roger Fournier have been instrumental in taking hold of the reins with a true "Show Must Go On" spirit.  Thanks go out to them for leading this work and not letting our Kuss students down.

Morton's Annual Art and Fashion Show was a huge success- Some amazing up and coming artists showed off their work this week!

Last week, the district Orchestra and Band leaders orchestrated our annual Solo Fest, where instrumental students perform for an adjudicator (not their teacher) and receive individual and targeted feedback as to their technique.  This is a great FRPS Festival, and students' faces light up when they receive their medals!  We will be redesigning the process for next year, so stay tuned for the 2018 Solo Fest in the spring of 2018!

Next week, we have 5th Graders heading to the RI Vets to be a part of The Rhode Island Philharmonic's LINK UP Performance, with recorders in hand!  Good luck to all 800+ students participating in this grant funded event!  Teachers, make sure you have your final student count in for Monday so I can confirm buses!

Also, Itinerant Teachers are beginning to draft their schedules for next school year, so these will be shared with building principals as soon as next week for some!

Evaluation Nuts and Bolts:
  • I have been meeting with teachers all week and there are some great constructive conversations going on...  I truly appreciate the time and effort you all take in putting together your evidence and the attention you have paid to the feedback and recommendations given.  As I have these meetings, I am also looking for ways to improve my practice, and will ask you for things that you think can be focused on for next year, that I can help facilitate.
  • One year plans: The deadline for summative conferences is 5/26.  You should be preparing your artifacts for submission one week prior to the date that you meet with your evaluator.  Make sure you include the outcome of your SLG work, and that it is easy to understand- report your findings and have a conclusion as to what the impact of this work was on student learning.  At the summative, you need 3-5 artifacts per standard as well as for the SLG and PPG.
  • Two year plans: Same as above, but if you are in formative period, you should have 1-3 artifacts for each standard, as well as the SLG and PPG.  If at summative (end of 2nd year), you should have 3-5.
  • If you work at Durfee or are an itinerant teacher, I have invited you to these meetings this week via the calendar.  If I am a secondary evaluator (K-8 teachers who I do not own directly), feel free to have me at these meetings with your building evaluator.
Have a wonderful week!

Jackie
