Weekly Arts Wrap Up- May 8th, 2017

It's that time of year!

Busy, bustling classrooms filled with teachers and students all over the district working on projects, AP portfolios, performances, exhibits..  Oh my!  Let's not forget to take a moment to give ourselves a little pat on the back for the great, meaningful work you all do with OUR KIDS, day in, day out..  I know this is teacher appreciation week, and administrators will be doing little things to make you smile, but I want to tell you, from the bottom of my heart that I am so proud of you all.  You are (and I have said this before) the art or music teacher that our kids will make memories with that will last a lifetime.  It takes a special person to do that, and I tip my hat to you all..  Thank you for making my job the best job on the planet.

And now for some sharing...

In the News This Week...

  • FRPS Annual Solo Fest will be held tonight at Durfee!  Students from all instrumental programs are invited to perform a piece, and will receive feedback from their adjudicator.  This great event helps build confidence in our instrumental (orchestra and band) students, as they rarely get a chance to be judged by someone other than their teacher.  Medals are awarded at various playing levels, and it's a great accomplishment for our students.  Best of luck to all!
  • The BMC Durfee Spring Concert is Thursday, May 11th at 6:30PM.  We hope to see you all here, as we have yet another amazing show!  Our Durfee students have been preparing for months under the tutelage of their fearless directors, Mr. Matt MacMullen, Ms. Lara Beth Terry and Ms. Erin Erban.  Behind the "curtain" is our own Mr. Oz, the amazing Mr. Gary Bigelow, who runs the lighting and sound- we couldn't do it with out him!
  • Durfee Students depart for their Adjudication Festival on Friday morning!  Break a leg, and show'em you GOT GRIT!
  • Morton Middle School is holding their annual Arts Night- Fashion Show and Exhibit on May 17th at 6PM.  It is sure to be quite a show, with teachers modeling garments made from non-traditional materials, and all of the art on display!
  • Durfee's Artists present their work to the community at the Festival of the Arts, on Friday, May 19th from 5 to 7PM.  Work will be viewed prior to the event by outside artists and judged based on category criteria- awards will be unveiled at the show.

Evaluation Nuts and Bolts:
  • One year plans: The deadline for summative conferences is 5/26.  You should be preparing your artifacts for submission one week prior to the date that you meet with your evaluator.  Make sure you include the outcome of your SLG work, and that it is easy to understand- report your findings and have a conclusion as to what the impact of this work was on student learning.  At the summative, you need 3-5 artifacts per standard as well as for the SLG and PPG.
  • Two year plans: Same as above, but if you are in formative period, you should have 1-3 artifacts for each standard, as well as the SLG and PPG.  If at summative (end of 2nd year), you should have 3-5.
  • If you work at Durfee or are an itinerant teacher, I have invited you to these meetings this week via the calendar.  If I am a secondary evaluator (K-8 teachers who I do not own directly), feel free to have me at these meetings with your building evaluator.
Have a wonderful week!

Jackie
