Return2Learn Blog Entry Numero 2

Good morning, and a happy Friday to you all from home!

As promised, here are some meeting notes from Thursday:

  • K-5 and 6-8 In an Nutshell:
    • Check in with PPE- Some teachers have their supply already, and a few did not yet.  Hand Sanitizer and a product for cleaning will be given to teachers.
    • We discussed that we can create a new routine during the closing that has students cleaning at the end of each class.
    • With most on carts, teachers can and should simplify lessons so that they are reducing the amount of supplies they are putting out for students to use.
    • When drawing paper/other supplies of this nature are given, they should be placed on a "transition" table and students should come get it one at a time.
    • Please do not rotate through the classroom and hand out supplies
    • Students in K-1 should have crayons in their desks that they can use in art
    • Students in 2-3 should have markers
    • 4-5 Should have colored pencils
    • I would say that to ensure that this building based "pooling" of supplies is done, you may have to take charge of the communication in your building to make sure that it's all set.
    • Carts should be delivered right around the time of school start.
    • I will bring by the Chromebooks to those who asked for them in the form- these will be set up as Teacher CBS, not as student.  I will keep a doc with the serial number so I know who has what
    • Please try to plan lessons so that you are able to simplify what physical supplies you will be using, and don't be worried about collecting student work at this time for Arts Expo or grading.  Think more along the lines of grading with a gradebook sheet on a clipboard (you can print this from X2) and doing it during class, based on effort or completion of the task.  I do not recommend collecting work.
    • At the middle schools, as I said in the meeting, I recommend using the Chromebooks for art and music tasks as much as possible- Quaver, Incredibox, FlipGrid, and Google Drawings are some of a million platforms you can explore with kids.  Yes, you can still be performing "traditional" pencil and paper art/music tasks, but please try to keep it to a minimum so you are lessening the amount of interaction.
    • We also discussed potentially identifying grades at the middle school that could have a "pack" of supplies that they would "own" and therefore not have to collect and sanitize between use.  Ex: 6th grade- set of 8 colored pencils, could travel with them back and forth.
    • Next week, we will meet to learn how to use Google Drawing and a couple of other things.  I know you may know FlipGrid, but it has some new stuff to it, so take a look when you have a chance.
