 People, it's DECEMBER!

Check out these ceramic pieces done by Margo Broderick's Kuss students!

Yes, we are already there.  Crazy to think we have made it to the last month of the calendar year already.  So, what's cooking all up in this department?

  • Durfee Fine and Performing Arts Course Catalog Revisions
  • Musicals are ramping up
  • Great identity based work happening in classrooms across the city
  • Accountable Talk is happening across middle schools
  • Band, Chorus and Orchestras are sounding SOOOOOO good
  • The art making is on fire- also ramping up for Scholastic Art submissions
Fine/Perf Arts Course Catalog Revisions:

As we grow, and develop new ideas to engage our Durfee scholars, we are impacted by the interests of our students, advances in arts technology and other factors that cause change in "what" we offer students.  Being mindful of these, we have a few new courses to offer students:

Honors Painting II (H)
Honors Drawing II (H)
Honors Fashion Design III (Honors)
Exploratory Art
Digital Art
Dance Appreciation
Dance Ensemble
The Durfee Musical!

Identity Work:

Do you have an example of a lesson and/or student work that dives into the concept of Identity? Please share it HERE!

Here are some examples of tasks that engage students in Identity Work...
  • At Morton, Jenne Mattei is doing an Identity Box lesson
  • At Durfee, Heather Pereira is doing a My Toy Story lesson
  • In Fashion class, students are weaving their story into a textile design
  • At Letourneau, Ms. Berberick asks students the following reflective questions about music:
    • Can I hear major & minor in the chords?
    • How can I describe major vs. minor?
    • What do I feel when I hear major chords?
    • What do I feel when I hear minor chords?
Thank you, and have an awesome weekend.
-Jackie
