Week Ending December 15th, 2023

In the News This Week:

  • The Musical
  • Week of Concerts
  • PLC Focus Work
  • Progress Reports
The Musical- MATILDA:
Congratulations to all who participated in this AMAZING performance.  It takes great leadership, care, and a team of superstars to pull something like this off, and that's exactly what happened this weekend.  Here's HOW successful it was.. We had approximately 800 people attend across the three performances- and 33 students took advantage of the Attendance Initiative, and chose to use their "credit" to see their classmates on stage.
Love that.

Week of CONCERTS:
If you know, you know.  It's that week again, the "most wonderful time of the year!"  As our band, chorus and orchestra teachers prepare our performers to be "stage ready", let's give them a little love and grace.  If you see Nicole Turgeon, Itsva Hernandez, Jodie Laprise, Gabrielle Toscano, Julia Klingner, Donna Murray, Matt MacMullen, Jay Treloar, Lara Beth Terry, Chelsea Burnham, Christina Lucini and Ben Barker, please give them some love (or snacks)..  They may look a little tired.  LOL.

PLC Focus 6-12:
We will continue our work in planning for culturally relevant tasks in art and music classes as we dive into some planning focused on not just the pursuit of identity, but also diving into CRITICALITY.  We will define this in PLC, and make meaning of:
  • How do art and music communicate a story?
  • \What is the impact of "who" is telling the story?
  • Who is making the art/music and who is listening/viewing the art/music and how do biases come into play?
Here is an article on AI and human bias.  Super relevant to today's arts conversation.  And here is the Canva platform that includes all of our work this year in one place.

Progress Reports:
For 6-12 Schools, this week is progress report week- please make sure you get your X2 in gear, and don't forget to click POST!   Don't forget, you can and should also be reaching out to parents of students who are not being successful to ensure that they are A. Aware and B. Able to help get their child back on track.  If you are struggling to come up with the right words, ask for help, or try Magic School- did you know you can ask it to draft communications to parents?  YEP.  Crazy times we live in.
Love this sweet moment I captured of Dierdre Smith, PreK Music teacher.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Jackie
