Week Ending June 7th, 2024

That's a WRAP! The SouthCoast Creative Arts Lab wrapped up their spring semester with amazing middle school work happening weekly, under the leadership of Vicki Arons, Dennis Robinson, Vanessa Reis and Michelle Borges. Kudos to the adults and kids involved in this after school model program. I attended a Southcoast ommunity Foundation meeting late last week, and was so proud to represent Fall River at the table, as the committee discussed how Fall River is making strides as we collaborate between the public school system and the local cultural council and FRACC. Good morning, Arts Fam! Big news on the horizon- last night, the school committee voted to move Assistant Superintendent Tracy Curley forward as their candidate of choice for the next Superintendent. The Impact of AND and So- June 14, 2024

Man, that was one busy WEEK! This is a very weird blog, because it's my last blog. I have learned SO much from this team, and if you want to know, what I hang my hat on as I leave next Tuesday will be that throughout these nine years, I have built a power team in Fall River. Our kids deserve the best, and you bring that to them. Working in a city school system is not easy street- that we know from experience. And so many times, we see students in other urban districts who either do not have access to programs (have you seen how many places are cutting arts?) or have art/music but teachers are given bare bones supplies/instruments. I am PROUD to say that we are a model program, and many other urban districts look to YOU for inspiration. So, lean into that. Through this team, I have learned the power of the word AND and SO . Ms. Hernandez knows how to party! Peace out, Girl Scout! Ms. Turgeon's students LOVE her. Ms. Burnham takes her work VERY seriously.. Can we talk about this beautiful smile? That's one happy artist in Mr. Fontinha's class! I attended the SouthCoast Community Foundation meeting and was so happy to hear that we are knocking it out of the park in Fall River in terms of community collaboration for arts programming!
