Chicago, Prepping for Black History Month, and the Holiday Concerts!

Chicago, The Musical- High School Edition:

Hope to see each and every one of you here this weekend to support our PERFORMING ARTISTS!!!  They have worked so hard, and having them return to the stage after two years of no performances is already awesome, but in this NEW AUDITORIUM, it's extra special AWESOME..  Tickets are available online or at the door for all three shows!

Getting Ready for Black History Month: 

ART: 

BLACK HISTORY MONTH BULLETIN BOARD CONTEST:

Throughout the month of January/February, I ask our awesome Art Teachers to engage in art making with your kids that revolves around anything to do with Black History... I was going to share examples of bulletin boards, but I don't want to lead you in any specific direction.. Want to celebrate a Black Artist/s? Historical figure/s? Black Cultural traditions? Be creative, and engage your kids in the process!

Once done with the BB, share a pic of it with Rochelle/me, and I will have a panel of judges do the honor of voting.. Deadline for submission will be WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 16th. This way, we can share the winners by Friday the 18th (prior to vacation).

Prizes - Dick Blick Gift Cards:

• 1st - $100.00

• 3rd - $50.00
• Honorable Mention - $25.00

Music:

Music teachers, please consider taking on this challenge throughout the month of Jan/Feb...

• Students can submit any type of music recording
• It must be thematic around Black History/Culture
• This could be.. performing a Cape Verdean Creole song using a video recording
• Could be spoken word recorded with music composed by the student in the background
• Could be a loop created with lyrics that celebrate Black History or Culture
• Please have students commit to making sure that language used is school appropriate :)
• Deadline for submission will be WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 16th.

As you may have guessed, the time got ahead of me this week, and I did NOT get to walk through your awesome classrooms to do my Term 2 Learning Walk!  Ugh.  I promise to be in next week... Sorry!
