Watch this by Dr. Christopher Emdin- Teaching & Being Ratchedemic!

In the News This Week:

  • This week, we start with a SHOUT OUT- Alec Serino, music teacher at Silvia is planning some amazing stuff for his students.  Check out his Grade K plan HERE.
  • And another SHOUT OUT to the DURFEE Fine and Performing Arts Team for working on task planning during PLC within the lens of Identity Pursuits.. It's amazing to hear teachers making their thinking visible during this collaborative work period.
  • We should be wrapping up Goal Setting this week, as all self assessments, SLG and PPG submittals are due in TeachPoint by Friday.
    • Then, what happens?  Your evaluator will check your goals, and either give feedback or sign them.  Once both you and the evaluator have signed them, (this should happen within the next week), the next step is to make the Ed Plans.  There is one plan per goal, for a total of two plans.  More on that in the next week's blog.

Our Work This Year:
  • As you know, we have identified "buckets" of learning that people have committed to with these goals- culturally relevant planning, literacy in arts, preK mapping, choral, band and orchestra map/planning/engagement, music technology vertical alignment/mapping, TAB teaching.
  • These pursuits will continue to be our focus as we plan for PD days ahead.  Our next PD day is a FULL Day PD day- Tuesday November 7th.  Your lead teachers and I are planning the day as we speak, specific to those exact things.  We will share with you all the plan as soon as we have it set.  The day will start with a prep, then Session 1 (9-11:30) and then lunch, and Session 2 (12:30-3).  Stay tuned for more info on that!
  • As we plan for our kids, think about the model art/artist you put in front of students..
    • Are we being mindful of the cultures/races/ethnicities we serve?
    • Do we allow "space" in the lesson for students to see themselves in the work?
    • And from Ghouldy Muhhammad, "HOW WILL MY INSTRUCTION HELP STUDENTS TO LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT THEMSELVES AND/OR OTHERS?

Have a wonderful weekend,

Jackie
