FRACC SCCAL Wrap Up:
What an amazing program... The FRPS 7-8th graders have been working with their mentors (Vicki Arons, Vanessa Reis and Dennis Robinson) throughout the fall semester and the end result included songs that students composed themselves and artwork that was amazing.  I ask that you watch this 2 minute video so that you are aware of one of the Arts Programs that your students can take advantage of if they excel in art or music.  Thank you- the next semester starts on February 27th, and registration info has been pushed out to all parents of 7/8th graders.  If you are wondering if a student is aware of this program, and you want to recommend them, let them know that registration closes on February 8th and the lottery is February 9th.  Here is the video...

Observations and Evaluations:
If you are in a one year plan, you are probably meeting with your evaluator this week, or in the next coming week.  Please make sure that you are ready for this meeting- reach out to me or your lead teacher if you need help or have questions.  Here is a video I made last year that explains nuts and bolts of the evaluation process, including how to upload evidence to TeachPoint, and additional info on how to's.

Lesson Plans:
  • Thank you to those who continue to be consistent with sharing your weekly lesson plans!  (And a reminder to those who don't- please share with me on Mondays!)
  • As you plan lessons, think about how you are communicating the "why are we doing this" to kids- are they aware of why they are learning and doing what you are asking them to do?  Content and language objectives are KEY and IMPORTANT things to communicate!
  • Here is an example:
Analyzing the Influence of Art on Perception and Understanding

Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to perceive and analyze artistic work, and hypothesize ways in which art influences perception and understanding of human experiences.

Assessment: In pairs, students will analyze a piece of artwork and write a constructed response to the question, "How do life experiences influence the way you relate to art?"

Key Points:
Artistic work influences perception and understanding of human experiences.
Life experiences shape the way individuals interpret and relate to art.
Analyzing artwork helps us perceive different perspectives and meanings.

Opening: Show a thought-provoking artwork to the class.
Ask students to observe the artwork silently for a minute.
After observing, engage students in a class discussion with the following questions:What emotions does this artwork evoke?
What do you think is the artist trying to convey?
How does this artwork make you feel?

Introduction to New Material: Explain to students that in this lesson, they will explore how art influences perception and understanding.

Discuss the concept of art as a form of expression and share examples of different art forms.
Address the common misconception that art has only one correct interpretation.

Guided Practice: Divide students into pairs and provide them with a different artwork to analyze.
In their pairs, students should:Observe the artwork and discuss their initial thoughts and reactions.
Analyze the elements of the artwork such as colors, shapes, lines, and composition.

Reflect on how their own life experiences may influence their interpretation of the artwork.
Share their findings with the class.

Independent Practice: Assign each pair of students a different piece of artwork.
In pairs, students should:Analyze the assigned artwork using the provided art analysis worksheet.

Discuss and hypothesize ways in which life experiences may influence their interpretation of the artwork.
Write a constructed response to the question, "How do life experiences influence the way you relate to art?"
Present their findings to the class.

Closing: Have a brief class discussion summarizing the main ideas discussed in the lesson.
Ask students to share one new insight they gained about the influence of art on perception and understanding.
