Week Ending May 3rd, 2024

When you walk in an art room and know the task is FIRE.

This week in the Arts:

  • NY Trip
  • Fab Lab
  • Evals
  • Expo
  • Concerts

NYC Trip:
The Durfee Performing Arts Students are venturing out of state this weekend to NYC!  Let's wish them the best weekend ever as they have a packed itinerary including touring the big apple, performing on a battleship called the Intrepid, seeing Wicked the Musical and eating out like pros.  Special thanks going out to Julia Klingner, Lara Beth Terry and Nicole Turgeon for leading the charge so these kids can make super cool memories.  Also, special shout out to Dana Giglio, Durfee Performing Arts Parent Lead who has been at LITERALLY every single thing we have done this year.  She is a dynamo, and I wish I could clone her.

Fab Lab:
If you know, you know.  Fab Lab.  It's a vibe- and an afterschool program spearheaded by Ms. Ana Arsenio and Ms. Sydney Hawes.  Tuesday through Thursday, 14 brave Fashionistas will have spent a total of 9 hours designing and constructing runway ready fashion made from denim.  This type of upcycling is huge right now, and it's so important to bring this type of opportunity to our kids.  We have two students in the group who are in sub sep special ed classes and I am SO proud of all of these kids, but I have a special place in my heart for these two!  Love love love.  You will see these pieces modeled on the runway at the fashion show on the night of the Arts Expo!

Evals:
I had sent an email to you a bit ago asking for google calendar invites for 30 min meetings to do our end of year evals, so thank you if you have done that!  If you still need to, this is your lil reminder!

Expo:
  • I have been filling requests as they come in- please let me know next week if you need additional labels or kraft paper.
  • K-5 and 6-8 teachers, I have requested a noon-ish dismissal for you on the day of the Expo.  Please work with your offices for coverage for that afternoon.
  • As we did last year, you can drive your car up to the front of the school (main entrance) and I will be there to help you with a cart.
  • If you are staying until the end of the expo, feel free to take your student work with you, but if you choose to leave it here, we will be rolling it back up with a few student helpers, labeling it per school and I will spend the following week delivering it back to you on a sunny day with my husband's truck LOL..
  • Things to bring with you that day- try to bring anything you think you might need to put the work up- masking tape, stapler, etc.
  • I will have a cart with snacks and waters for teachers.
Concerts:
  • We will have two nights of concerts this year at Durfee- Wednesday 5/15 is Jazz Band, an interlude from Music Tech, and Chorus.  Thursday is Orchestra and Concert Band!  Both shows start at 6 and are free to all.
  • Morton Concert- 5/21
  • Kuss Concert- 5/22
  • Talbot Concert- 5/23
  • HLCS/Doran Concert- 5/22
  • All are at 6PM
  • Kudos to this team who runs this city all year long to make this happen!  Julia, Matt, Jay, Donna, Nicole, Jodie, Vanessa, Itsva and Gabrielle!
Have a wonderful, warm weekend!
Jackie
