In the News this Week...

Ms. Csizmesia's 5th Graders ON STAGE AT THE RHODE ISLAND PHILHARMONIC!  

  • FRPS 5th graders participated in the Rhode Island Philharmonic's Annual Link Up Program!  This grant funded recorder program allows our kids to learn to play an instrument (the recorder) while having fun with the RI Phil- the culminating activity is an unbelievable concert at the RI Vets Theater where thousands of students from RI and Massachusetts come together to play the songs they practiced all year long!  This year, we had a special part in this event- our own Becky Csizmesia led the Letourneau students ON STAGE to model their performance for ALL!  Kudos to Becky and the Letourneau 5th graders!  YOU ROCKED IT!
  • Durfee celebrated excellence with the class of 2017 at their annual Senior Awards Night and NHS Cording Ceremony!  What a wonderful evening.  As I sat in the audience, I was so proud of our kids and their teachers, who persevered together through thick and thin to get to this point!  I am humbled by the multiple talents and skills our students are leaving us with, and know that they have what it takes to make it in whatever career path they choose.  Class of 2017- you are the #GOAT!
  • Our own Christine Mandeville led an afternoon of clay learning in her Staff Pottery Workshop at Morton Middle School.  It is opportunities like these from colleagues, with colleagues, for colleagues that are most meaningful.  Thank you, Chris, for all that you do to make play of work, and work of clay!
  • On Friday, the Durfee Band and Choral Students were asked to play at three Memorial Day Celebrations.  We saluted, celebrated and mourned all who fought for our country.  Through music, we paid homage to those who fought for our great nation.

Evaluation Nuts and Bolts:


  • I am continuing to meet with teachers this week and appreciate the time and effort put into the artifacts you are putting forward, and in addition, the attention you have paid to the feedback and recommendations given. As I have these meetings, I am also looking for ways to improve my practice, and will ask you for things that you think can be focused on for next year, that I can help facilitate.
  • One year plans: The deadline for summative conferences is 5/26. You should be preparing your artifacts for submission one week prior to the date that you meet with your evaluator. Make sure you include the outcome of your SLG work, and that it is easy to understand- report your findings and have a conclusion as to what the impact of this work was on student learning. At the summative, you need 3-5 artifacts per standard as well as for the SLG and PPG.
  • At this point, I have met and prepared all one year summative reports. I have given paper copies to all teachers- please send me back a signed copy, and thank you!
  • Two year plans: Same as above, but if you are in formative period, you should have 1-3 artifacts for each standard, as well as the SLG and PPG. If at summative (end of 2nd year), you should have 3-5. 
  • If you work at Durfee or are an itinerant teacher, I have invited you to these meetings via the calendar. If I am a secondary evaluator (K-8 teachers who I do not own directly), feel free to have me at these meetings with your building evaluator so that I can be a part of the process for commendations and recommendations.

Planning Ahead:Durfee:

  • On Monday, June 5 we will use Advisory Schedule with Period 2 extended to 10:39 so Day 1 of Science MCAS goes smoothly
  • The Final Exam will run from June 16 to June 23. All students are required to take their Final Examination for 10% of their final grade and all classes should be administering some sort of Final Assessment on those days. AP students who attended all Saturday sessions should be the only ones exempt from Final Examinations. Classes should not be finishing early. If you are choosing to have a project or another type of assessment, have students present or do another culminating activity during the scheduled final exam period. If a student tells you that they need to take their examination early, this must be cleared with grade office.
  • We will hold an AP assembly for all students taking an AP Class on Tuesday, June 13 during Period 3. AP Teachers will be there to distribute summer packets to all students signed up for their classes next year.
  • 6/2- Junior Awards and Senior Prom
  • 6/5 and 6- Science MCAS!
  • 6/8 Grad Rehearsal, 6/9- Graduation
  • 6/13 Faculty Meeting
  • 6/15- Last FULL DAY FOR KIDS
  • 6/16-26- FINALS!

Supplies!

  • I have submitted all requests given to me to Russ Lewis. I thank you for sending these in for orders for the first half of the next school year. I will be sending teachers the process for requisitions for the 2017/18 SY from the arts and music budget in next week's email.
  • These District Supplies will be sent to you soon- I believe before the end of this school year, so plan ahead- rotate any left over supplies to the front of the shelf, and clean out storage spaces to make sure supplies are organized and ready for next year!
