...It is really NOT luck- I attribute the great things happening for my team and their students to the hard work and planning that we base our work on! So, what do we have going on during this "Lucky Week?"

- This Saturday, the DURFEE Drama Team, Led by Lara Beth Terry and Gary Bigelow will be headed to Sharon High School to compete in Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild's Semi Finals! I have such a good feeling about this! (see bus pic above!) Wish them luck!
- This past Monday, we were visited by Ernie Boch Jr. and Music Drives Us, as they came to meet the Durfee Music Students! He presented us with a plaque and a check for $10,000.00! We have already spent the money on high quality instruments- we are quick!
- Several of our K-12 Arts Educators are at the National Art Education Association's Annual Educators Conference! They are going to bring back so many great ideas! It's always so great to see our teachers being inspired by others, and then using that inspiration to influence their own craft..
In the News This Week:
- As I listen to K-5 Music Teachers and reflect on what they do and plan, I am using these conversations and reflections to think about and plan for next year. We seem to LOVE Quaver, the online platform for K-5 Music, and this year's subscription was a super hit for those who use it- I would like to plan for next year that we all embrace this platform and use it to drive lesson and task planning for our kids. Therefore, I will be purchasing the program for us for the 2019/20 School Year.
- I have loved working with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and the program that we purchase for recorders, Link Up, has been wonderful. I am, though considering the idea of not purchasing the program for next year, and using the recorder program with Quaver, so we can align ourselves with the mapping with one program, in stead of two. I of course will still be purchasing recorders for students, and we can discuss in terms of mapping which grade/s you feel recorders belong in- Grade 3/4? Grade 4/5? Grade 4 and then shift to Choral as a focus for 5? Let's talk about this idea at the March Department Meeting!
- 5-8 Music Teachers worked on Monday with Gary Bigelow and Mary Zema! This was awesome to see- teachers learned how to use the basics in Mixcraft in order to think about how they might use this in 8th grade. And then Mary! Mary worked with teachers on how to use Ukes with our kids in the middle grades! Great stuff to integrate into our 6-8 Maps! During the summer I will be purchasing sets for middle schools so they can begin to integrate these two tasks! Our belief is that kids will love the use of tech and instruments in general music class!
- Art teachers on Monday picked up their rolls of Kraft paper cut by the ART CLUB kids from Durfee! Thanks again to Ana Arsenio for leading this work! The next month and a half will have teachers prepping student work for the huge ARTS EXPO! This event is held here at Durfee on Thursday, April 25th from 5 to 7 PM! I will share the official flyer next week so we can give it to kids and post it everywhere!
- Band, Orchestra and Percussion itinerants worked together on Monday afternoon, planning for the ALL CITY Concerts- they are coming up!!!! Band is the 26th and Orchestra the week after! Wish them luck!
- K-5 Art Teachers- This year, I am asking YOU! Can you email me a jpeg of a student art work (2D) that you would like to see on the Flyer for the ARTS EXPO? I need it by next FRIDAY MORNING!
