Wrappin'Up March!

...and there it went!  Wow, did March go by fast!

This week, NO PICS.  Instead, a message...

As you know, Friday is the last day of Term 3...  This is the time of year where we are either getting ready for a concert, for an Expo, for AP Exams/Submissions, and all while wrapping up grades for the term (or for K-5, you are two weeks into the last trimester), and getting ready for the last term to start on Monday, which is a release time day!  Try saying that five times fast!

So, as we head into that LAAAAST stretch of the 2018/19 School Year, I want to leave you with this thought (and forgive me for the triathlon analogy)...

Ramping up for the last term of the school year for me is a LOT like planning for the last 10 miles of the run in an Ironman.  I'll tell ya why.

In an Ironman, you swim 2.4 miles, while getting kicked in the face by other swimmers, all fighting for their spot in the ocean.  Depending on the weather and the tide, this can be even WORSE than it already sounds.  If you survive the first 10 minutes, that means you didn't have a panic attack, and are ready to push through.  In School during term 1, you probably can remember those who challenged you for their "spot in the ocean" with behaviors that were not what you were expecting, and for those first two weeks, you stayed the course, and set the expectations...

In an Ironman, you ride 112 miles, many of them hilly and hot.  After a while, if you don't keep up with your nutrition and hydration, you will be foggy, and lose sight of your goal.  At about mile 90, every inch of your body hurts, and you are realizing that maybe these padded shorts are NOT all they are cut out to be...  In terms 2 and 3, just like on the bike, we are in the middle of the work.  It's easy if not consistent with routines (the "nutrition" factor of your work) for our kids to lose sight of the common goal of success, and get a little "foggy."

And then, there's the run.  26.2 miles.  Many say if you don't "save some in the tank" for the run, that it will be the "longest walk of your life."  The same is true for term 4.  Think about it- consistency, focus, and clear goals.  These are common factors between teachers and triathletes.

And so, when you cross that finish line, input those grades, and hear that final bell...

  • You will be exhausted
  • You will feel accomplished
  • You will know that you consistently gave it everything you had...
You are an IronTeacher!

Thanks everyone, for all you do every day with and for our kids.  Let's hit Term 4 like nobody's business, and KILL the last quarter of the school year!

Go get'em!

Jackie
