Week Ending 11/8/19

This week, in the ARTS...

November 5th PD Day!
INPUT:

November 5th marked our first full day of professional development for the 2019/20 school year.

Here is what we accomplished in a nutshell:

  • We had a great time working together to brainstorm and create tasks planned from a variety of National Core Arts Standards for art and music!
  • We also had some time to get together in collaborative groups to plan for the SLG and PPG activities.
  • We took a "field trip" to Silvia and Viveiros to see art and music classrooms, and looked at how these spaces support the learning and behavioral expectations.  The debrief was effective in the sense of sharing out what we saw that we will consider adopting into our own practices.
  • We learned 5 Closing Strategies for the Workshop Model (see Power Point shared in email), and also some quick ways to assess learning at the end of the class through exit tickets that look like social media feeds :)
OUTPUT:

So, what do we do with this PD Info?  Next steps?
  • Let's put some of these closing strategies in motion!  Please, please share with me pictures of your kids and/or student work as they use exit tickets or other closing strategies!
  • Continue to work together to accomplish those team goals- the next meeting of the minds will be your monthly department meeting for November.  I will be sending out a form to ask what the best day is for this for K-8 teachers.
  • Try using or copying and modifying one of the many power points/Blendspaces shared from Tuesday!
