Yes, and it's a LONG WEEKEND.

Shout Outs:
  • Check out Barbara Mullen's Website!SITE
  • Check out Jayson Newell using tech to engage ALL LEARNERS: VIDEO
In the PLC This Week:
  • Supply Reminder: All needs can be emailed to me by Friday January 15th.
  • Observations: We have been conducting virtual observations, and these are going well.  It's so inspiring to click-in and visit your classroom spaces, and see our students engaging with you.  Whether it's an Orchestra lesson, an Art or Music lesson, the tasks have been great to see roll out.  Lots of great work is also being produced by our KIDS!
    • In Miranda's class at SB, students were asked to design and draw a Mythical Character and share it on their screens- it had specific criteria for the beast-making, and they were also asked to think about it's environment, and "story".  This is right out of the NCAS, and super fun for kids.  Thanks Miranda!  Great work.
    • In David's class at Doran, students were whisked away from Fall River to Rio De Janeiro to take a "Virtual Field Trip" and learn about their culture and music making.  Super cool to see what David asked students to do- they had to find three objects in their houses to shake, scratch and hit to make a batucada type sound.  They had a great time, and were engaged in the process.
    • In Kendra's class at Talbot, we saw some really great engagement using technology as they synthesized the style of Wassily Kandinski and used Canvas to do it while "jammin out" to some classical music.
  • March 1- Preliminary date for beginning of roll out by grade return to hybrid.  We discussed the roll out of return, and how this might impact our department (music, art, band/orch).  For High and Middle- Semester one will close and a new semester will start (potentially with new students for you).. make sure you are thinking ahead as to how you will "roll out" the Rituals, routines and expectations for the class with any new students for the start of semester 2.
  • Sem 1 grades are closing 1/29. Durfee teachers discussed how they will collect "borrowed" equipment, and roll out the next semester's stuff to new students.
  • Kerin and Brian will be "school swapping" on Feb 1!  Kerin will go to Tansey and Brian to Watson.  Good luck!  This marks the half way point of the SCHOOL YEAR!
  • Quaver FEVER has hit the Middle Schools in FRPS!  We now have a pilot license for 6-8 curriculum.  Please let me know if you need access and don't have it yet.
  • Art of Ed Chat- Art staff discussed the use of Art of Ed resources.  Lots of good stuff in there- PDFs of assessments, digital worksheets, lesson plans, videos, etc.  Have not checked it out yet?  Go to their website- www.artofed.com and use my email and password (learn123).  This will give you access to all.
  • Middle School Music- we are planning to roll out a project during Music in Our Schools Month.. check out the video Abby built for the platform!  VIDEO  Students will have this as an option to participate in all month, and then we will be compiling it into an awesome video.
PD PLANS, AHEAD!
Guess who's hanging with us during PD Day?
  • Friday February 5th- the morning will be building based PD, and from 12-2, you will have district offerings.
  • I will have two hours of collaborative work time for groups in the PM:
    • Band Orch: Part 2 of Morning Session- building a plan for summer program.
    • K-12 Art: Building the Platform for Virtual School Art Gallery, and a surprise GUEST VIRTUAL VISIT!
    • K-5 Music: Learning how to use Classroom Relay, and Black History Month resource building.
    • 6-12 Music: Co-planning- Making Video Tutorials for Planned Tasks (Supporting All Students) and a GUEST VIRTUAL VISIT!

Have a wonderful long weekend!
-Jackie
