Welcome, Fall, and OCTOBER!!
In the News This Week:
- The October 4th Release Time Day
- The 6-12 Learning Walk
- Planning Ahead
October 4th RT Day:
Here is the DOC for the PD Day- As we plan for Monday, it appears that middle schools will be for the most part staying in buildings due to PDs they need to do there. K-5, Lead Teachers and I will be at Durfee facilitating the collaborative work from 2PM to end of day. That should give us a good chunk of time to work. Abby and Rochelle will lead the Mapping Tasks groups, and I will lead the Literacy group. Thank you for responding to the form that I shared, as this is how we will identify peeps for these groups throughout the school year's PD days.
The 6-12 Learning Walk:
Thank you to all that I was able to catch in the act! I may have missed a couple due to preps, etc, but I think I caught a good snapshot of what we do in classrooms across the district. As you know from last week's share out of the K-5 Learning Walk, the purpose of this first one was to observe rituals, routines and expectations across the 6-12 classrooms. Here, I will share some pics from the Learning Walk- check'em out!
Some quick shout outs:
- In Ms. Grinnell's art foundations class at Durfee, all students were on task and the time blocks for the period were clearly communicated on the screen.
- In Ms. Nunes' class at Kuss, all students were working on a line mixed media project, and had a video tutorial on loop as well as student work samples around them to assist and support the task.
- In Mr. Newell's class, students in piano class jumped right into the warm up exercises using scales, contrary, similar motion, and introduced a new one to the mix- Hannon.
Planning Ahead:
- 10/2- Band Competition
- 10/4- Release Time Day- PD for Staff (see your building schedules for end of day times, etc)
- 10/11- Columbus Day- No School
- 10/12 and 10/20- Durfee Fac/Dept Meetings
- 11/2- PD Day- No School for Students
- 11/5- End of Term 1
Thank you all, and have a wonderful weekend!
-Jackie
