2021/2 GOALS:
This team did an amazing job last year keeping our kids "plugged in" and working during the pandemic hybrid/remote schooling.  So, again a BIG CONGRATS on all of the work you did to make this happen.  This year, we will be working on picking up where we left off, but our focus this year will be on four things- Tasks, Talk, Tech and Touch in our classes.. what does that mean?
  • Tasks- We will be planning engaging tasks that are at grade level using the National Core Arts Standards for Fine and Performing Arts
  • Talk- We will be using the Respond/Connect strands to expand students' ability to talk (and write) using content specific vocabulary
  • Tech- Yes, we will continue to work with technology to engage and support all learners
  • Touch- We will be returning to planning tasks that involve collaboration between students, and performing in ensembles
I will be building SLG and PPG goal sentence frames for all to use so that our PD time and work will be in alignment with this focus.  Stay tuned.
Lesson Planning:
  • I have shared a Google Classroom with each of you so that you can submit weekly lesson plans.  Please accept the invite and then add your plans in there for the week ahead.  I will be providing templates for those who would like them in the next week's email.  Thank you!
  • As we discussed in the K-8 Google Meet, focusing on building community through clear communication of classroom expectations is always a great way to start the year with your classes.  Tasks can be planned that keep kids engaged in "the work", but don't assume that they know what you want and need from them in order to make your year run smoothly.  From the moment they are greeted at the door, to the do-now, to the mini-lesson, to the work period, to the closing.. take the time set those expectations and you'll be glad you did.
  • If you need the link to the NCAS, here it is: LINK
  • Please let me know if you need help in building lesson plans.
Out Sick?
  • If you are out sick, please use the Aesop Frontline website to put in the absence.  Please do this early so that schools can prepare for the absence- building principals will probably communicate a time (usually by 6AM more or less).
  • If you are out, please send or share lesson plans for the day so that your coverage can keep the kids engaged.  Some schools have a sub folder for teachers to keep in their room in case of an emergency- good to print out rosters to have in there for classes, too.
  • It's always nice to leave a letter to the sub- I was a sub 22 years ago, and always appreciated a letter from the teacher with key tips and info about the room, the kids and stuff.
Fine and Performing Arts Learning Walks:
  • I will be back to doing four Learning Walks- one per term.  I did these last year virtually, and they were awesome!
  • I will let you know when the first one will be, and I will be looking at the first of the four goals listed above- the TASK.
  • I will share the report out with all FRPS Fine and Performing Arts Teachers as well as with all Principals and District Admin.  It's always a super informative, and super cool thing to see.  Stay tuned- should be doing this during the week of September 20th.
Shared Maps: Please note that we will be working on these this year, but they are a good place to start!

Hoping your first week was awesome,
-Jackie
