Week Ending September 17, 2021

Welcome to the end of a solid week of school!

Seems like our routines are being set in classrooms, and students are learning them!  Thank you for committing to and communicating those classroom expectations- they are the "cogs" that make your classrooms function.. stay true to those key rules, and your winter self will thank you now!

A Couple of Lesson Shares/Examples:

Here is an example of an art and a music lesson that showcase and synthesize African American Artists as part of our work this year.  Check out the simple base plans- I made these.  I used Cesaria Evora (video above), a Cape Verdean "Morna" singer and Kehinde Wiley (image at top), an African American painter.. two amazing people.  Please, FEEL FREE TO MAKE A COPY OF THE LESSON AND/OR THE BLENDSPACES!!!

In the Blog This Week:

  • Lesson Plans:  Thank you for submitting these in the Google Classrooms!  I go through them on Monday, and it's really the high point of my day.  I'm not kidding!  I love reading what you are planning.  So excited for your kids.  If you have any issues uploading, please reach out.
  • Learning Walk: I will be doing our first learning walk next week, to report back on what tasks are being planned across all schools in art and music- I will begin with K-5 schools on Monday, and be at 6-8 on Tuesday, and then 9-12 on Wednesday.
  • Evaluation Goals for the Year: I shared a google doc with you all that has the goals for the year- examples of SLG and PPG are there.  Please use it when drafting yours!
  • Band and Orchestra Demos: These introductory demos should be wrapping up at K-8 schools- Music teachers, if you have a student asking questions about what to do to sign up for Band or Orchestra, please reach out to your Band/Orch Lead Teacher- Nicole Turgeon.  In addition, here is an intro video of the programs if you would like to show it in Music Class!
  • Substitute Folders:  Just a reminder- we never know when we may need to be out.. Make sure you have a folder set up in your room that has key components in there for whomever is doing what I call "God's Work" AKA: subbing... Here is a sample letter you can include in there:
