Tuesday Artist's Blog- March 23rd, 2022

So much excellent work happening across the Fine and Performing Arts department this week!  This week, the blog will be a celebration of the Performing Arts AWESOMENESS!!!

  • METGs: So, for those of you who have no idea what this is, METG is the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild, and they hold an annual high school theater competition.  This year, Durfee Theater acting and technical students competed against Dartmouth, Mansfield, Case and Diman as they performed The Actor's Nightmare.  This means they move onto the Regional Round, to be held at Duxbury High, where they will compete with Holliston, Sturgis, St. John's Prep, Everett, and Weymouth High Schools.  They received great feedback from the judges at prelims, and will be busy practicing within the next weeks to refine their craft.  So excited for them!  Bring home the GOLD, HILLTOPPERS!  And a special set of KUDOS to Ms. Lara Beth Terry and Mr. Gary Bigelow for leading, mentoring, teaching, loving, pushing and persisting with these kids.  They are more awesome because of you.

  • ALL CITY:  This week, Band and Orchestra teachers will be leading the packs as they bring their students from grades 5-12 to Durfee to practice and perform together.. so excited to see them all up on stage next week- Concerts are on March 29 and 30.  These young musicians have been learning these performance pieces for a while, and as someone who did not teach music, I am ALWAYS so in AWE of what they do at this event.  The fondest memories I have of All City Concerts is really just watching the high schoolers mentor the young students on stage.. so great.  Kudos ad major props to Nicole Turgeon as she leads the gang- Julia Klingner, Jay Treloar, Donna Murray, Matt MacMullen, Elizabeth Lehr, Caroline Ollivierre and Jodie Laprise!

  • TALBOT and MORTON THEATER: This group will be involved in a combo coming up in the spring- They will be field tripping to Boston to see the performance "Once on this Island" and also participating in a "Master Class" with actors pushing in to these schools to work with our young actors!  Thank you, Lead Teacher Abby Casey for putting this together!
And I couldn't leave this great pic out this week!  Check this out from one of our AP students..
