BLOG TAKEOVER- Julia Klingner!

Here's Julia's Update!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I hope you all get some well deserved down time with your friends, family and loved ones. I’m honored to be writing this week’s blog!

The Durfee Hilltopper Marching Band has had a great season this year, with the Fall River Christmas Parade being our very last event. They placed 6th at New England Scholastic Band Association Competition Regional Finals in October, represented Durfee with pride at the Veterans Day Parade, will be performing today at the pep rally and tomorrow at the football game versus New Bedford. With a band of mostly brand new members, they have done such an incredible job rising to the challenges of this demanding activity and setting a great foundation for the growth of our program.

The Durfee Concert Band has also been making great strides. We started our school year with a Chamber Music Unit, where the band was divided into groups of 3-6 players that had to choose and prepare their own musical selections to perform in a concert. This gave birth to our new occasional tradition of “Chamber Music Fridays” where one of these groups performs a piece from their Chamber Music Concert in the atrium during Friday dismissal. It’s proven to be quite a hit so far with the Durfee students and staff so far. If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy a Chamber Music Friday, catch us (and the Chorus and Orchestra) at our Winter Concert on Thursday 12/15 @ 6pm for a night of winter wonderful and holiday music!
