On this Teacher Appreciation Week, I echo the sentiments of Simon Sinek here.. Every week, the blog celebrates teachers for "what you do" and I just want to tell you all that I love you not just for what you do, but WHO YOU ARE. Who you are to each other, to your students, and as humans, artists, musicians, composers, actors, directors.
YOU ARE PRETTY AWESOME.
In the News This Week:
- Evals and Observations
- Events- Expo, Concerts, Solo Fest, Oh MY!
- MCAS- When's It Over? :)
Evals and Observations:
You have probably been observed in the past week/s or will be in the next week. I am trying to balance daily responsibilities and evals and observations, so just know that we are trying our best to be thoughtful about feedback that is meaningful for teachers. Evaluations are (as usual) done in TeachPoint, so you can actually see all of your dates and docs in there once you log in.
Here are some helpful tips for the Eval Process:
- One Year Plans- Summatives are due by May 19th
- Evidence should be in TP by May 12th
- Two Year Plans- Summ/Formatives are due by June 2nd
- Evidence should be in TP by May 26th
- Remember, 1-3 artifacts per goal/standard and they can be "attached" to more than one goal/standard
- For SLG, show evidence of the measurement of growth of your group you selected to focus on
- For PPG, show evidence of how PD was implemented that supported your goal, or evidence of your goal in action (mapping, etc)
- For standard 1, show evidence of great lesson planning, assessments, or clear expectations
- For standard 2, show evidence of scaffolding, meeting diverse needs, motivation, setting expectations
- For standard 3, show evidence of work preparing for the expo (emailing parents, ect), concert/performance prep, contact with parents, posts for the community, newsletters sent home
- For standard 4, show evidence of what you have taken from PD/PLC/CPT/Dept Time and implemented into your practice
Events: Expo, Concerts, Solo Fest:
- Solo Fest is coming up on Tuesday May 9th after school at Durfee High School. If students/parents ask questions about it, have them reach out to their strings or band teacher. It is an in house adjudication festival, held for students in grades 4-12. They come to Durfee to perform for a musical judge (not their teacher) and are given feedback based on their performance, and a medal.
- Durfee Jazz Band is performing at the annual We HeART Fall River event. Check out the info HERE! Band kicks off next Saturday at 11AM outside of Government Center
- May 18th- Durfee Spring Concert
- May 23rd- Morton Spring Concert
- May 24th- Kuss and Talbot Spring Concerts
- The K-12 Arts Expo is Thursday, May 18th from 5-7 in the Durfee Main Atrium- with lots of special things happening.. a fashion show (with a special guest), a guitar ensemble and amazing art everywhere!
MCAS:
- Yes, it DOES seem to get longer and longer. MCAS windows in schools are all different, so please reach out to your office if you don't know when it will be over- the district will be done by June 7th with testing Science. Remember, we have ELA, then Math and THEN Science, so it's A LOT. I hope it hasn't impacted your work toooooo much, but I bet it might have in some way. Ugh.
Thank you all, and have an awesome next week, and know that I appreciate you ALL the time, not just on Teacher Appreciation Week.
Jackie
