In the News This Week:

Pursuit of Knowledge in Arts Classrooms:

As we plan our tasks for students, let's consider these questions:

• Am I planning a grade leveled task? (K-8- use maps)
• Will students be asked to demonstrate a skill?
• Do they know what the criteria for success will be?  How do they know- rubric?
• Is there space in the lesson for the pursuit of identity/sense of self?
• Are students acquiring and using new content language?

Think critically abut these questions as you continue to plan great things for our kids!

Arts Expo:

Good news!  We were granted $2500.00 from the MCC to purchase Arts Expo panels!  This will be a great help, and we will be taking a look at what best fits the needs of the student work that we produce.  Stay tuned for more info.

Greater Fall River Art Association- Featuring Durfee Artists!

The Durfee Fine Arts team will be preparing work with their students to exhibit at the GFRAA The reception will be 5-8PM on Saturday Feb 3, and 1-4 on Sunday the 4th.

Semester 2:

The last day of Semester 1 is Friday, January 19th- this marks the HALFWAY point for the School Year.  As teachers of grades 6-12 plan for an end to their semester 1 classes, and the successful start to semester 2, it's time to reflect and plan for classroom management and expectations.  I have been working with the Talbot Impact team on classroom management, and will also be weaving this into CPT with Morton and Kuss.  

Learning Walk:

I am planning a district wide Learning Walk with Nicole, Chelsea and Kerin.  The four of us will be visiting all fine and performing arts classrooms to take a "dipstick" look at what happens across the district.  The preliminary date for this learning walk is Thursday February 1.  We will be looking at grade leveled Learning Expectations, scaffolds and use of content vocabulary.  More to come on this event!

2/9/2024 PD Day:

On Friday, February 9th, we will have a district wide professional development day.  This is the draft of the plan for the day, so take a look!  I just need to add a couple of PDs to the plan (9-12 groups).
