Week Ending March 22nd, 2024

A Week Filled With Greatness!

Congratulations to the Band and Orchestra teams for amazing performances on Wednesday and Thursday at All City Concerts!  These events really are something to see- students from grades 5-12 attend two after school practices (one prior to the concert on the same day), and have been dedicating time and patience on these pieces for a while so that they could get up on the big stage at Durfee and perform for their parents.  It's amazing to see the 5th-8th grades being assisted, supported and cheered on by the high school musicians.  When you ask a high schooler, this is always one of their fondest memories.  And mine, too.

But, I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to talk about the dynamos who run these two events.  All City Band and Orchestra would NOT HAPPEN without the leadership of Julia Klingner and Nicole Turgeon, and the ENTIRE team of Band and Orchestra teachers.  They put in hours with these musicians, modeling how to play, how to sit, how to perform, how to stand, how to READ MUSIC, how to be fearless and get on stage, and how to be proud of accomplishing great things.  So, this week, the blog is dedicated to these fearless music educators.  They are a big part of why we celebrate Music in Our Schools Month!  Mucho Amor e Carinho to Donna Landers Murray, Jay Treloar, Matt MacMullen, Jodie Laprise, Itsva Hernandez, Vanessa Cabral, Gabrielle Parente, and of course, Julia Klingner and Nicole Turgeon.

And on the horizon- The Little Mermaid!

This show is bound to be amazing.  Chelsea Burnham has been working so hard with her kids, and even through a couple of cast members getting sick, the show must go ON!

Please consider going to see the show on Friday night or Saturday afternoon!

Our Early College art students have been busy bees lately- traveling to UMASS and to 44 Troy Design Center to advocate for infrastructure as they design innovative ways to engage and support the Fall River Community.  Thanks for sharing, Heather Pereira!

With only 14 school days until April vacation, the rest of the year, also known as TERM 4 will be in and out before you know it- embrace spring, reenergize and tackle those last 10 weeks of school!  We've got this.

Ahead:

3/29- No School- Good Friday

4/11- Durfee Talent Show

5/2-5/4- NYC Trip Durfee Performing Arts

5/15 and 5/16 Durfee Concert
